"What sets Step by Step apart is how they treat the whole family, not just my child. The parent training sessions have made me a better advocate for my daughter. I've learned so much about how to support her between therapy sessions."

"We were completely lost when our daughter Sofia was diagnosed at 3. Step by Step didn't just treat Sofia — they treated our whole family. They taught us what to do at home, how to communicate with her school, and gave us hope when we had none."

"The home therapy sessions have been life-changing for our family. Our son Andrés used to have meltdowns every morning before school. After 6 months working with his therapist right here at home, those meltdowns are mostly gone."

Early Intervention In-Center ABA

From Nonverbal to Classroom-Ready in 18 Months

Background: Mateo was diagnosed with ASD at age 2 and a half. He had no functional language, frequent tantrums lasting 30–45 minutes, and significant difficulty with transitions. His pediatrician referred the family to Step by Step for intensive early intervention.

What we did: Mateo began a 30-hour-per-week in-center ABA program focused on verbal behavior and communication. His BCBA used discrete trial training and natural environment teaching. Parents attended weekly coaching sessions.

Results: After 18 months, Mateo had developed 50+ functional words and was using simple 2–3 word phrases. His tantrum frequency dropped by over 80%. He enrolled in a general education kindergarten classroom.

Building Independence & Ending Morning Chaos

Background: Camila, age 7, had been diagnosed with ASD at 4. Her parents came to Step by Step because mornings were unbearable — she would refuse to get dressed, eat breakfast, or leave the house without a major meltdown.

What we did: Camila's BCBA recommended home-based sessions targeting her morning routine directly. Using visual schedules, first-then boards, and reinforcement systems built around Camila's love of music, the team redesigned her entire morning. Parents were coached in real time.

Results: Within 4 months, Camila was completing her full morning routine independently. Morning meltdowns decreased from daily to fewer than once per week. Her parents called it "getting our mornings — and our family — back."

Starting Kindergarten With Confidence

Background: Diego, age 5, was diagnosed with autism at 3 and had made great progress in early intervention. As kindergarten approached, his parents were anxious — he had never been in a classroom with 20+ kids and would shut down in noisy environments.

What we did: Six months before kindergarten, Diego's BCBA designed a school-readiness program. In-center sessions simulated classroom routines — circle time, raising hands, transitions. Three months before school, the BCBA began shadowing Diego at his new school twice a week.

Results: Diego started kindergarten on day one with his peers. His teacher reported he was one of the easiest students to manage by October. By spring, he no longer needed in-school BCBA support and had made his first real friend.
